One of the fundamental beliefs in our modern society is that by achieving our goals we can obtain happiness

A typical statement would be "I could be happy if ..........(e.g. I had a relationship) and the object of our if....... can be regarded as a dream. A dream is something that a person wants and has the idea that if the dream was fulfilled, the person would experience a desired state E.g. happiness, joy serenity, security

This process does work to a certain extent. When a dream is manifested, a period of happiness and joy may result, but it usually very brief as the basic notion of the mind “I could be happy if……….) sets in again.

However, throughout the whole process of exploring and manifesting the dream, Hindrances will occur. Hindrances are those thoughts that run through the mind that say things like "I can't get all the money I need", "I am too ugly", I don't deserve to get this dream", "I can't do it" etc. Existence of these Hindrances will block the process and prevent the Dreamer from manifesting the dream and achieving any satisfaction with their life. In the Dream Sharing Process, these Hindrances are addressed whenever they occur as soon as possible by a variety of techniques by [[Clearing_Hindrances| clearing them.

Listening to the Dream

So when a recipient a dreamer of Dream Sharing services is listened to, just the very act of listening provides support to the dreamer by helping the dreamer declare their dream. Dream Sharing support staff assist the dreamer in getting clear on the nature e of the dream by asking questions, the what and where of the dream, assisting the dreamer to move the dream from unconscious yearnings to a specific desire and in general assist the dreams to develop clarity and focus on the dream, The brings a certain peace to the dreamer as their needs for respect and clarity are met.

= The Dreamer takes action to manifest the Dream As the dreamer is now clear on the dream, the dreamer might start taking personal action to manifest the dream. This action, taking little steps to-wards accomplish the dream will give the dreamer as sense of purpose and meaning in their life. Completion of little steps taken to-wards the dream will give the dreamer a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, things that will bring peace to the dreamer’s life.

Listening to and Supporting the Dream

Once the dream has been declared and is visible and can be transmitted to others (say by being on the Dream Sharing Wiki and in other ways), people can offer and provide support to the dreamer. The giving and receiving of support provides a lot of satisfaction to both parties. When the dreamer receives support, there is another opportunity for a little more peace to set in.

Determining the Feelings and Needs underlying the Dream

According to the NVC paradigm, dreams are strategies to fill a need(s). Dream Sharing st the dreamer (possibly supported by Dream Sharing staff) can use the dream to understand and delineate the basic needs underlying the dream. In DreamWiki, each user is encouraged to recognize and name the underlying needs, possibly prioritizing them in order of development. Recognition of needs (and the feelings generated by their lack of fulfillment) provides the opportunity for the NVC process called Empathy. Empathy can be provided to the dreamer by the dreamer themselves, by Dream Sharing staff and by others. Receiving empathy usually results in a state of calm and peacefulness.

Developing other strategies to meet the Needs

Once the needs have been identified , an opportunity arises for developing other strategies to meet the needs which are easier to manifest than the original dream. If these alternative strategies are successful, the dreamer might have their needs me with actually having the original dream manifest. This is likely to produce exactly the same emotional effect as manifesting the original dream. And , according to the NVC paradigm , meeting these needs is likely to produce wanted emotions like peace, joy, contentment and happiness.

Focusing on needs

What seems to be recognized in a number of spiritual disciplines and in NVC itself, is that exploring the need, becoming aware of the need , visualizing the need being met is a process which seems to reduce the intensity of the need itself. This may be similar to a process in Buddhism in which looking a desires, watching its process, watching the thought forms is a process which tends to de-emphasize the strength of the desire. A similar process may also occur in AA When an alcoholic shares his desire to drink with his fellow alcoholics, the desire seems to abate.

So the dreamer being supported y Dream Sharing is encouraged and supported to experience the need(s) underlying the dream. Any lessening of the needs that occurs may lead to an increase in acceptance . Acceptance is basically a state of mind in which what is currently happening ( no dream manifested) is looked at and accepted without any great desire for it to be different than what it currently is. Any reduction in desire/need that occurs as a result of getting deeply in touch with the nature of the need is likely then to lead to more acceptance, peace, and tranquility in the here and now.

So the process of encouraging a dreamer to define their dreams, to work on manifesting them and to get in touch with their underlying needs/desires is a process which may be likely to help the dreamer to get closer to experience wanted emotions like acceptance, peace of mind, joy etc.
